Sintra and Friends

8/14/2019

Today we got an Uber and went to Sintra. It was 30 minutes to get there from our apartment.  When we got out of the car we had to hike up to the palace. It was not very far. It’s called Pena Palace and it’s a UNESCO world heritage site.  A lot of different kings and queens and Portuguese royal families lived there. We went inside and did a walk that goes around the castle. It was really high. It was called the wall walk.  After that we got in line to go inside. When we got inside we got to see all the rooms of the castle. My favorite room was the Stag Room where they had a miniature model of the whole palace.  After that we got to a terrace and had lunch. We packed a lunch. Mom made sandwiches.

This is a postcard. The day we went it was sunny and warm. It was really beautiful.

We walked down from the castle after we were done exploring it and we went into a really cool forest.  It was so magical!!! There was a tree that had a bunch of thick branches that you could sit on. There were a bunch of secret tunnels that lead to secret places.  Then in the forest we saw some little ponds that had little houses at the end. There was a walkway coming out of the water, leading to the little house.

Awesome old big trees!!

We had so much fun exploring the magical forest!!
A big pool with a bridge over it.
There were tons of little streams going through the palace forest.

Then we went to hike down the mountain to see the town of Sintra and go to a bakery we wanted to try.  It was called Piriquita and it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!! They are famous for their custard pillows called Travesseiro.

The Moorish castle next to Pena Palace. The Moors ruled Portugal and Spain and around there during the Middle Ages.

More yummy pasties at Piriquita
Travesseiro, YUMMY!!! Piriquita is famous for this pastry. They’ve made them there for 160 years!!!
We found some horses in Sintra and got to pet them.

We loved Sintra. Especially the forest and the hike.

8/15 Seeing Friends!

The next day we got in an Uber again and went to the beach.  But instead of going to the beach first, my mom and dad told the Uber driver to go to a hotel.  We got to the hotel and saw our friends waiting for us!!!!! It was an awesome surprise. Their names are Olivia and Jack Mosier.  We know them from Hermosa Beach. Then we went to the beach and lunch and dinner with them and had an awesome time.

It was good seeing my friends.
