Santa Margherita & Portofino

9/2/19

Today we got on the train and went to Nice, France and Genoa, Italy. We had to switch trains in Genoa to get to our apartment in Santa Margherita.  We walked for 5 minutes and then got to our apartment. I found this vase that had a lot of dust in it and a 1 cent Euro coin, gelato money!! I was happy.   After we got settled in we went to dinner. The place was called “Osteria” which means a simple and inexpensive Italian restaurant. I ate an octopus salad. It was cut into tiny pieces served in rice.  It was very chewy and tasted great with the rice. Then we went home and went to bed.

Today we woke up, got our swimsuits on and went outside to start our hike to a special beach.  We walked along a hiking trail on the coast for about 40 minutes and then crossed a road to a cool hiking trail.  The ground on that trail was covered with Astro Turf also known as artificial grass. We walked on that trail for about 10 minutes and then got to a park built into the mountain we were on. We played there for  a while. The slides were really fun. They went straight down. After that we continued on our hike. Later, we got lunch in a town not far from the beach called Portofino. We got pizza. It was so good! We looked around for a while and finally found the beach. It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOL. There was an enormous rock with a little tree on top. The water was as clear as glass. After that we hiked toward home and went to two more beaches. Then we got gelato and went home.  Later we went to a restaurant called Da Buffa. The Italian restaurant workers are very nice. And they love kids.

After a dip in the Ligurian Sea.
This was the awesome park that we found on our hike!
Overlooking the turquoise sea.
Look at all the mopeds!!!
Ready for dinner!!
The food at Da Buffa was SO DELICIOUS!!!
Mom got pizza.
Dad and Anna like clams and pasta. There is a lot of seafood in Santa Margherita, since it is on the sea.
Guess who? Christopher Colombus! He was from this area and we know of him because he took a wrong turn and got the credit for the first European to find the Americas.
